This is the end of one road but not goodbye
Dear EsoterX fans
This is PsychologistMimi – a fellow blogger, but more importantly, ExsoterX’ wife. It is with an extremely heavy heart that I write to announce his sudden passing this past Monday, January 16th at the age of 50.
He is survived by his spouse, his son, his brother, and parents.
He was a long-time New Yorker who enjoyed working at the New York Public Library. The library was the perfect place for him, considering his restless intelligence as well as a vast love of words, storytelling, and history. This intellectual curiosity is evident in this blog that he has maintained for over a decade. He loved digging deeply into his stories, doing tons of late-night historical research to find interesting stories to share with you all. This world is filled with many events that may not be readily explainable. But, they sure are fun to conjecture about. He had an irreverent wit and mischievous charm that he brought to his storytelling.
He loved getting your messages -whether they were outright fan mail, questions for people’s own academic writing, or people who might have a different take on the subject phenomena.
As recently as December 2022, he appeared on Vincent Treewell’s podcast “The Weird Part” which you can find at https://vincenttreewell.wordpress.com/. It was a fun discussion that I encourage you to listen to.
He was a friend to everyone he met and never encountered a problem that he wouldn’t work hard to solve. His friendliness, easy-going personality, and caring soul will be missed by everybody who knew him.
While he loved writing and loved this blog, he loved more than anything his son. Our son is 14 years old and already has a charming wit to him and loves writing horror stories.
We will be keeping this blog live as a legacy where we will post some of his unfinished work, articles from his past, and new items from his son as he progresses in his writing.
A new path is being forged.
This is not goodbye. Until we meet again.
His memorial service will be held shortly. More to come.

I am shocked to hear this. This was one of my favorite sites on the internet. I could tell from his writing that he must have been a funny, brilliant, interesting original in real life. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
It will probably take two years to begin to equalize your grief. Thank you for sharing your best.

I am stunned, and very sorry… this has been one of my guilty pleasures. But if energy is neither created nor destroyed, then I expect we’ll meet again, somewhere. I’ll look forward to it.
I am so very sorry to hear of his passing! Any librarian lost is a huge hole of knowledge gone, and he was so wonderfully weird in his writings. I’ve been reading them for years and am still working through a backlog. Condolences to your family.
I am crushed. I feel I’ve lost a dear friend. EsoterX had the truly remarkable gift of making his readers think and laugh. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
My deepest sympathies and most sincere condolences to you and your family for this awful loss, and I wish you all much strength and peace during this difficult time.
This blog was always a joy to read when posts came up, and I am sad that yet another great writer has passed this year. (He is now the third that I know of that was on the list of some of my favorites, alas.)
If–once things are more settled after such an unexpected loss–you decide to do a commemorative book collecting many of the posts on this blog, I am sure you’d find a willing and eager potential readership amongst all of us who enjoyed this blog!
I look forward to seeing the future of this work, wherever it goes, and know you and your son will do excellent things in keeping his memory and legacy alive!
Dear Mrs. EsoterX (Mimi?)
I am so sorry to read this news of your husband’s passing, but I’m glad to know from you what happened to one of my favorite, informed and entertaining bloggers.
I will certainly miss his stories of historical and inexplicable events.
My condolences to you, your son, and your family.
So sorry for the loss. Was one of the most interesting blogs period.
Thank you so much! Much agreed – mimi
Dear Mimi,
I’m terribly sorry to hear this sad news. I came across Aaron’s blog several years ago and immediately subscribed to it. The breadth and depth of his reading was astonishing, and he was a gifted and highly amusing storyteller. We corresponded about a dozen times; most recently in the autumn of 2021, when I shared with him something absurdly synchronistic that happened to me in the precincts of a Japanese temple some 20 years ago, and he told me something equally weird that happened to him when he was younger and canoeing in Northern Quebec.
You and your son are in my thoughts.
Best regards,
Mark

It was with great sadness that I read of your husband’s passing. My condolenses on your family’s loss.
Thank you for keeping his writings online, as they were simply brilliant.
It is a true loss – He is among the highest ranks of this genre. Charles Fort and John Keel now (sadly) join him as his peers! So sad. I hope some brave publisher will publish a book of his writings which are endlessly captivating and brilliant.
I add my condolences. He was a bright and whimsical fixture in Fortean writing — alongside some others I see paying their respects here. He will indeed be missed.
Sorry for your loss. May your grief bring you only good memories to sustain you through the days and months to come, when nights are long, and days are endless, and the absence in your life feels overwhelming.
I actually just discovered this site recently while researching Reprobus / St Christopher, and felt immediately at home. My condolences to you and your family. The content here is priceless – thank you for preserving it, and I’m looking forward to what comes next.
Not visited for a while and never before commented; what a shock, I am so saddened to hear this. My heartfelt condolences to you, your son and family.
